Hari Bol

As we drove to LAX at 4:30 AM this morning, Dr Gupta chanted mantras to Krishna, Radhe, Govinda, Gopala and a host of other deities I didn't recognize. It was not so much of a prayer, but rather a way to pass the time in the car and prevent worry ("Vata go high") about his international flight to Germany for the next ten days of his teaching tour. As I explain to people when I teach mantra therapy, you burn a new groove in the record. Chant the mantra and drop into a healthy state of mind instead of an old grove of worry, anger or melancholy.

As the chanting settled my mind, I reflected on the last thirteen days I spent living, teaching, cooking and talking with Dr. Gupta. It was a long consultation of sorts but he never told me what to do next, as he knew my pitta would rebel. Instead he suggested I already knew what to do next for my own "Healthy body, healthy mind and healthy consciousness."

As a result of our natural state of sattva (purity), which resides inside of everyone, we each can listen to that voice to find our true direction. As I left him at the curb, he said "Keep healthy now", almost as a joke but knowing that we are all challenged to stay the course.

May all beings be with Peace,

Rob

  • Lunch the Ayurveda Way

The most important thing to remember about the Ayurvedic approach to diet is that our meals should be warm cooked meals and the largest meal should be lunch. The digestive fire is largest at mid-day so eating at this time will allow you to get the most out of your food. Eating warm food is nourishing and balancing to all the doshas. It is possible to prepare a warm lunch while you are getting ready to go to work or at work. The following tips will help you find alternatives to sandwiches and fast foods.

How does one take charge of their own health?

Ayurveda provides the tools necessary to both restore and maintain health so that disease can no longer find a foothold within the body. This is accomplished through close attention to balance in one’s life. Balance is the natural order; imbalance is disorder. Health is order; disease is disorder. After creating an optimum environment that supports the body’s natural healing processes...

    Hibiscus Cooler Sun Tea

Cooling herbal berverages are a great way to reduce excess pitta during the summer months. Hibiscus is excellent pitta reducing herb which clears toxins from the blood, purifies the subtle body and support proper function of the kidneys and female reproductive system. It is also useful for fevers due to its refrigerant action.

Place all ingredients in a 2 quart jar, cover with 4 cups water , stir and set in the sun for several hours.

    • 1 Tbsp. Hibiscus flowers - dried
    • 2 tsp. Rose hips - dried
    • 1 tsp. Orange peel - dried
    • 1 tsp. Lemon grass

Strain and sweeten with honey or maply syrup, if desired. Serve cool. For a truly refreshing and deliciously unique beverage, add equal parts fresh apple and pineapple juice to this tea after it's brewed.
