  • Brahmamuhurta or the "Ambrosial Hours"

"The healthy person should get up from bed during brahma muhurta, to protect his life."           - Astanga Hrdayam, Su 2:1

Brahmamuhurta is the name for the early hours of each day roughly from 3-6am. Often the reason given for why this time is so ideal for meditation and obtaining knowledge is that the outer environment is serene and the mind is quieter at this time and more inclined within and less inclined to feel it is missing out on important jobs of the daylight. Dr. Vasant Lad also tells us that, "At this time, there are loving (sattvic) qualities in nature that can bring peace of mind and freshness to the doors of perception".

Aside from these reasons, there may be other reasons to appreciate brahmamuhurta. If we explore how it relates to the law of microcosms and macrocosms, we might see how we can take advantage of brahmamuhurta to lead to increased health and peace in our lives.

    Be a Part of
the Largest Climate Event in History

    March 28, 2009, 8:30pm local time

World Wildlife Fund is asking individuals, businesses, governments and organizations around the world to turn off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour - to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions.

Earth Hour is a symbolic event designed to engage people from all walks of life in the climate change discussion to send a strong message to our political leaders that we want them to take meaningful action on climate change.

Multivitamins Not Found to Reduce Risks

Many postmenopausal women take multivitamins in the belief that they help prevent cardiovascular disease or cancer, but a large study has found that they do neither.

Previous studies have had mixed results, some suggesting that multivitamin supplements are associated with a reduced risk for some cancers, others finding little or no effect.

For the new findings, published in the February issue of The Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers analyzed data from 68,132 women who were enrolled in a clinical trial and 93,676 in an observational study. They followed the women for an average of about eight years to track the health effects of multivitamins.

    Ayurvedic Rhythms:
    Balancing the
    Spring Season Intensive

Spring is a time of growth, ascendancy and new potential. The fresh leaves unfurl and dormant seeds germinate. This is a common time to cleanse the body and to assist the 'melted' kapha to flow out of the body. This can help kapha imbalances to be removed from the body before they impact negatively on your health.

When we observe animals in nature, we witness an intrinsic harmony with the seasons. However, people often lose touch with being in harmony with nature. It's important for everyone to make changes in diet and lifestyle during each new season. Ayurveda emphasizes the maintenance of good health through a balanced seasonal regime called Ritucharya.

Learn how to bring equilibrium to this period of seasonal change with proper food choices, herbs, aroma and chromo therapy, and other Ayurvedic lifestyle guidelines.
