Namaste
You may have noticed a gap in receiving this newsletter these past couple of month. Well I needed to go on retreat (Adyashanti at Mount Madonna Center), take some classes (David Crow's Aromatherapy Certification, NAMA conference, Dr. Lad's Marma Workshop) and take some time off (backpacking in the Panamint Mountains). Amongst all this I've been planning the next BIG adventure for you and for me! Here it is. Drum roll please...

With the blessing of many, I am pleased to announce that I will be sponsoring my herbal mentor, KP Khalsa, and his school, The Herbalists College, in teaching workshops and classes in Southern California. Your involvement in Ayurveda and herbology, leads me to believe that this level of instruction will be of great interest and benefit to you.
Soon after my graduation from CCA, I met KP at an American Herbalist Guild Symposium in Portland, Oregon in 2005. As I was listening to the presentations, KP really sparked my interest since his background is in Ayurveda. He studied extensively with Yogi Bhajan, a teacher of Kundalini Yoga and the founder of the 3HO Foundation. At that time, I was looking to advance my knowledge of herbology and Ayurveda. I learned that KP had a Nine Month Certification Course in Eugene, Albuquerque and Seattle. Since he was located in the Western U.S., I spoke with KP and began having him mentor some of my client cases starting in 2007.
As I presented cases to KP, I realized that his wealth of knowledge of herbs, along with his background as a State Certified Dietician/Nutritionist, was taking my knowledge to another level. Last December, KP and I started to discuss having him teach in Southern California. After much planning and scheduling here is what we came up with:
Workshop: July 17-18, 2010
Home Remedies and Acute Care Herbalism
Workshop: Sept 11-12, 2010
Cutting Edge Global Herbalism: Powerful Therapies around the World

Module 1
Oct 9-10, 2010
Nov 6-7, 2010
Dec 4-5, 2010
This nine month Professional Herbalist Certification training program is focused on gaining knowledge about herbs, their uses and the traditions from which they come including Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, European and Native American herbal traditions. Class time will focus on preparations, practical applications, remedy selection, herbal energetics, physiological systems of the human body and plant chemistry. KP is one of the few teachers I have met that shares accurate dosage information readily.
The Certification course is structured into three conveniently scheduled modules. Each module is scheduled for three weekends throughout the school quarter. The course includes extensive digital class materials. Previous herbal experience is helpful. Various teachers including KP, will be presenting during the certification course, giving us a diverse experience from practicing herbalist and educators.
The Nine Month Professional Course will also advance you toward a certification as a Registered Herbalist through the American Herbalist Guild (AHG). Founded in 1989 as a non-profit, the AHG is an educational organization to represent the goals and voices of herbalists specializing in the medicinal use of plants. Their primary goal is to promote a high level of professionalism and education in the study and practice of therapeutic herbalism. A "Professional Member" of the AHG has had their credentials evaluated by the Admissions Committee. Upon acceptance, professional members may use the designation Registered Herbalist, RH (AHG). KP Khalsa is a professional member of the AHG and is on their board of directors.
This program is a rare opportunity to study with a nationally recognized teacher and author.
I feel this course is worthy of careful consideration and hope that you can join us in this next enlightening adventure.

Many of you many have attend one of the cooking classes that my friend and teacher Jayashree has done in the past few years. She is a wonderful chef and will also subtlety introduce you to a new relationship with food that goes far beyond sustenance...a reverence, a merging with universe, or perhaps an offering from the gods. We have a new menu this year that is sure to please.
The 2 day Ayurvedic Cooking class over the weekend of June 19-20. This is a wonderful opportunity to actually cook some healthy food with great group of people. Check out her Sabudana Kitcheri recipe which I wroteup from a previous cooking class.

Cuts, scrapes, burns, sports injuries, day-to-day trauma and acute condi-tions all increase as the weather warms up. Some suffer from allergies as the sun makes its appearance and grass, weeds and flowers abound. These complaints and problems can be healed and soothed with simple herbal remedies that have been used for generations and throughout many cultures.
A refreshing hike or camping trip in the great outdoors may result in rashes, bug bites, or stiff sore muscles from overenthusiastic hikers. Flu viruses and bacteria are getting stronger and more resistant to treatment every year. But these concerns don't always warrant a trip to the emergency room. Herbs are safe, natural and powerful guardians of our health and well being. Learn how the herbs of Mother Nature can be used effectively at home to deal with these concerns.
